What is a Wali?

A Wali is the legal guardian and/or representative, often a male relative of the to-be bride. They play a very important role in the Islamic matchmaking process from the bride’s side. Depending on traditional and cultural practices, the Wali’s role may vary but their primary responsibility is to protect the interests of the bride.

The role of the Wali on Vidnik

Vidnik understands the importance of ensuring due compliance with Islamic rules and regulations during the Muslim matchmaking process. One of the ways in which the app ensures that, is through the ‘Add a Wali’ feature. In order to unlock chat on the app, it is mandatory for female users to add a Wali who will be able to access, contribute to, and supervise the chat.

Can I skip the ‘Add a Wali’ feature?

Unlike other Muslim matchmaking apps, the Wali feature is non-negotiable with Vidnik. In order to provide our users a completely halal experience from day one, we place continued emphasis on the inclusion of a Wali within the Vidnik app.

Who can be added as a Wali?

A male relative of the bride like the bride’s father, grandfather, brother, or paternal uncle is usually appointed as her Wali. In such cases where no members of the bride’s family are present, the responsibility can be taken over by a Muslim qaadi (judge), the director of the Islamic centre or the Imam.
